PUSLINCH – A proposed bylaw that would prohibit any trucks on portions of Watson Road and portions of MacPhersons Lane has risen to the top as township staff’s preferred option for traffic control measures.

Council will determine whether they want to pass the bylaw or not at Wednesday’s regular council meeting.

Currently, there’s a high volume of truck use on Watson Road between Wellington Road 34 and Wellington Road 36 as well as of MacPhersons between Highway 6 and Maddaugh Road.

Township staff want the bylaw passed ahead of the development of the road management plan, which is set to be presented to council in the second quarter of 2022.

Part of the preparation of this plan includes an assessment of all roadway infrastructure and the determination of recommended traffic control measures.

There are concerns that the ongoing heavy truck use at MacPhersons Lane and Watson Road may cause damage to the existing infrastructure and may not as the assessments have not yet been completed.

As such, township staff have recommended that these two locations be posted as “no trucks” zone and that the designation be revisited once the road management plan is completed.
