The province's Special Investigations Unit has terminated its investigation into an incident at the University of Guelph after the subject of the investigation declined to be interviewed.

In a news release the SIU says the incident occurred last November on campus and involved a 22-year-old male.

"Campus police arrested the man for offences. He was then transferred to the custody of Guelph Police Service (GPS) officers. On Jan. 22, 2018, the GPS was made aware that the man sustained a serious injury during the incident, and as a result, notified the SIU. SIU investigators were in touch with the man’s counsel, who told investigators the man would not provide an interview to the SIU, and would not be disclosing the nature of his injuries," says the release.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault
