Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health is recruiting participants for the second phase of a preconception health risk-assessment study.

The objective of the research is to make it easier to identify and address possible health risks before a woman becomes pregnant. Because 50 per cent of pregnancies are unplanned, proactively protecting the health of women also protects the health of babies.

Phase one of the research project helped to create an electronic risk-assessment tool designed to be used with healthcare providers to identify health risks related to reproductive health. In Phase two, Public Health is looking to validate the tool by comparing it with the method currently used by physicians in Ontario.

Participants in this research study will attend a 60-minute session at Public Health’s Guelph location on Nov. 27, Dec. 3, or Dec. 4. Public transportation can be arranged within the City of Guelph.

Women aged 18-44 who are not currently pregnant and are interested in participating in this study can visit the website for more information, or can contact Public Health at [email protected] or 1-800-265-7293 ext. 2623.
