In response to the overturning of Roe V. Wade by the United States supreme court and the resulting decrease in access to legal abortions in that country, a rally will be held Monday calling for increased access to the medical procedure in Guelph.

The Reproductive Freedom for All rally is planned for outside Guelph City Hall from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. It's being organized by Guelph Resource Centre for Gender Empowerment And Diversity.

“We are angry, outraged, and heartbroken about the fall of Roe v Wade. Now more than ever, we need to be loud in our support of abortion rights and access,” states a post on the event page. “It is not the time to be complacent because we don’t have laws limiting access, but the fact is, in Canada, with only 1 in 6 hospitals offering abortions, getting a surgical abortion is harder than it ought to be.

“Let’s gather and make some noise!”

The event is expected to include various speakers and offer “ways for folks to continue to plug in on this issue.”

Abortions are not performed at Guelph General Hospital.
