WATER CONDITIONS STATEMENT - WATER SAFETY

GRAND RIVER CONSERVATION AUTHORITY

************************
Moderate melting temperatures expected this weekend are expected to continue to impact the average to above-average snowpack that remains in the northern Grand River watershed. River flows are expected to stay above normal as melting continues.

The ice jam remains in place in the Grand River through Cayuga, though it is moving slowly downstream with some open water channels appearing. Warmer weekend temperatures are expected to assist further movement of the jam. Water levels in the southern Grand remain within the river channel.

Stay Safe

The public is reminded to continue to exercise extreme caution around all water bodies. Banks adjacent to rivers and creeks are very slippery at this time and, when combined with recent weather conditions, pose a serious hazard. Parents are encouraged to keep their children and pets away from all watercourses and off frozen water bodies, which may be weakened as a result of the melt. Ice fishing remains closed at all GRCA facilities.

River conditions and forecasts will be monitored and updates will be issued as warranted.

This Statement will remain in effect until Friday, January 27, 2016.
