River Run Centre’s 2021 Fall Season features a variety of performances catering to wide musical tastes. Four unique and exciting shows this fall officially kick-off the long-awaited 21/22 Season.
Amid a changing landscape in live performance, the venue previously bustling with music, dance, comedy and more has been waiting for the opportunity to open its doors. Now, with capacity restrictions recently lifted, artists are eager to return to the stage–and audiences are ready. “We’re looking forward to being able to present live shows again,” says Bill Nuhn, City of Guelph Manager, Theatres and Civic Events. “We’ve hosted a few smaller events, and were thrilled to present Live from the River Run this past year. Now we’re taking the next step, and it has been incredibly well-received by the community.”
To kick-off Fall 2021, Avery Raquel performs Friday, Nov. 12 as part of Borealis Music Series. A true rising star, this Toronto-based singer-songwriter masterfully blends classic soul, rhythm and blues with her own fresh, new sound. Coming onto the scene at a young age, Avery’s powerhouse vocals and classic inspirations including Etta James and Carole King have positioned her as a musical force to be reckoned with. With three solo albums released to critical acclaim, Avery is working on a fourth, much-anticipated record, which is set to release next year.
On Wednesday, Nov. 17, Miijidaa Life Stories features In Conversation with Rik Emmett, a unique evening in a conversational setting. Cameron Smillie interviews this Canadian rock legend, Triumph lead singer and inductee in the Canadian Rock Hall of Fame, the Music Industry Hall of Fame, and the Juno Hall of Fame. Musical interludes are woven throughout the evening, followed by a Q&A, giving the audience a unique perspective and the true story behind the artist.
Adi Braun brings her sophisticated style and subtle delivery to the stage with “Noir,” featuring the Adi Braun Quartet. On Saturday, Nov. 27, indulge in the delicious and dangerous music from the era of film noir and be transported in time by the music of Doris Day and David Raskin, among others. “Noir” features songs and repartee from this iconic period and classic film photography accompanies Adi’s blend of “cabarazz”–drawing on aspects of cabaret and jazz.
Boreal’s Songs for the Snowy Season rings in the holiday spirit with an evening performance on Friday, December 3, and a matinee on Saturday, December 4. Soloists Angie Nussey, Katherine Wheatley, and Tannis Slimmon come together each year as Boreal to deliver spell-binding harmonies and charismatic storytelling in this delightful production. Sing along or sit back and be transported to walks through fresh-fallen snow and the twinkle of the mistletoe.
Tickets for Avery Raquel, the Adi Braun Quartet, and Boreal’s Songs for a Snowy Season are $30 for adults, $28 for patrons over 60, and $25 for patrons under 30. Tickets for In Conversation with Rik Emmett are $35 for adults, $33 for patrons over 60, and $25 for patrons under 30.
