Up and Running Guelph —  a friendly, non-competitive running program for women with mild to moderate depression and/or anxiety — is launching its second session in January with plans to offer both an evening and daytime running group.

Modeled after a similar program in the United Kingdom, the program harnesses the positive effects of peer support and outdoor running to provide a boost for women managing their mental health.

After wrapping up a successful first session this Fall, Up and Running is looking forward to sharing the benefits of group running with more people. Many of the participants from the fall session said that the peer running format motivated them to get out and try something they never thought they could do — run!

Led by a team of experienced coaches, Up and Running is non-profit and volunteer-based with support from sponsors The Running Works and Kura Naturopathic Clinic.

The organizers of Up and Running are hoping to be able to offer a men’s group in the near to mid future, knowing that everyone can benefit from the mental health boost that running can provide. They’re currently gauging the level of interest and support for that idea, so please let them know if you’re interested in being part of a men’s group, or in helping out.
