Saxon on the Storm

When Zack Mitchell suited up for the Minnesota Wild last week, he became the eighth player from the 2013-2014 Guelph Storm to play in the National Hockey League so far.

He joined Scott Kosmachuk, Robby Fabbri, Kerby Rychal, Brock McGinn, Jason Dickinson, Ben Harpur and Tyler Bertuzzi. At the time of this writing, Mitchell, Fabbri and McGinn were still with their NHL clubs.

Most would agree it was the best Guelph Storm team ever, cruising through the preliminaries of the Memorial Cup in London before being upset by the Edmonton Oil Kings in the Memorial Cup final.

By comparison, only three members of that Oil Kings team have played in the NHL thus far.

So I thought it might be interesting to catch up with the 2013-2014 Guelph Storm and see what the roster is up to these days.

Scott Kosmachuk: Team's leading scorer that season is playing with the American's Hockey League's Manitoba Moose. 3 goals 4 assists in 11 games.

Hunter Garlent: Traded to Peterborough midway through the season, Garlent has 3 goals and 11 assists this year playing university hockey in St. Mary's.

Steve Trojanovic: Acquired in the Garlent trade, Trojanovic is no longer playing hockey after playing for Queen's University last year.

Tyler Bertuzzi: Has 3 goals and 3 assists in 10 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Ben Harpur: Pointless in eight games with Binghamton of the AHL.

Brody Milne: Traded during the season to Windsor, later played in Sudbury, no longer playing.

Phil Baltisberger: Has split his time with Zurich of the Swiss A league and the GCK Lions of the Swiss B league.
