Ontario Greens leader and MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to a letter from leading Ontario Liberals asking him to run for the leadership of their party:

“I believe Ontario needs bold, urgent action to stop the Ford government from dismantling what we all love about Ontario, and to work together to build a caring, connected, climate-ready province that puts people first, before party politics.

As you know, I have always said that I have no ambition to lead any party other than the Ontario Green Party.

Yesterday I received a serious letter from people who expressed concerns I share about the current government and the need for urgent action on the climate crisis.

They have reached out across party lines in a unique way in the spirit of doing politics differently.

So, I’m going to ask people to give me time to think about their arguments.

Most importantly, I want to know what my constituents in Guelph, my friends and colleagues in the Green Party and people across Ontario think about this letter.

Right now, I remain focused on representing my constituents and working with people in the fight to protect the Greenbelt, as I take time to respond to this letter.”
