Second Guelph grocery store has employee test positive for COVID-19

Loblaws Canada has confirmed that an employee at Domenic's No Frill in the Harvard Road plaza has tested positive for COVID-19.

The store says the staffer has not been in the store since March 18.

On Monday the store was closed for cleaning.

"Yes, one of the employees from Domenic’s No Frills in Guelph has recently tested positive for COVID-19.  We are in contact with the local public health team and have taken a number of steps to minimize risk, including increased sanitization protocols and enforcing social distancing practices in the store. The store has been closed for a thorough cleaning, and is expected to reopen tomorrow morning," said an emailed response from Loblaws spokesperson Catherine thomas.

"Additionally, team members who worked closely with this individual are now at home in self-isolation, monitoring for any symptoms," she said.

On Sunday the Longo's store on Clair Road said one of its staff members had tested positive.

In a post on its Facebook page, Domenic's No Frills posted the following late Monday afternoon:

"One of the employees at Domenic’s No Frills in Guelph has recently tested positive on a presumptive test for COVID-19. We understand that you may have questions and want to assure you we take your safety, and the safety of our employees, very seriously. Please note, the employee has not been in the store since March 18.
"We have a number of protocols in place at the store-level, including daily sanitization and social distancing practices to minimize the risk of exposure to our customers and employees. Additionally, the store has been closed now for a thorough cleaning. We expect to be reopened tomorrow.
We will work with the local public health team on any further directions."
