Sections of Speedvale Avenue and Silvercreek Parkway are expected to be closed much of today due to two large water main breaks.

Speedvale Avenue between Silvercreek Parkway to Dawson Road and Silvercreek Parkway between Speedvale Avenue and Campbell Road are both closed for the repair work to breaks that occurred around 1 a.m. Friday.

Repairs will continue throughout the day and be completed this evening, said the city in a news release.

"Residents and businesses serviced from the water mains under repair may experience no or limited water pressure and discoloured water caused by the disruption of naturally occurring mineral sediments in the water main pipes. Drinking small amounts of discoloured water is unlikely to cause health issues. However, the City recommends waiting until water runs clear before drinking it. To clear discoloured water, run a cold water tap for five to fifteen minutes," the city said.

Construction will continue throughout the day until the mains are back in use.
