A Guelph man faces assault and weapons charges after another man had his car window smashed with a hatchet early Monday.

The alleged victim attended the Guelph Police station approximately 1:30 a.m. Monday. He reported 30 minutes earlier he met up with an acquaintance behind a plaza on Eramosa Road at the other male’s request. The victim reported ongoing issues with the other man over that man's belief the victim had been speaking to his wife.

The alleged victim reported the other man removed a hatchet from his car and used it to smash the driver’s side window of the victim’s car while he was sitting inside it. No physical injuries were reported.

Police located the subject man and arrested him.

A 39 year old is charged with assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, mischief under $5,000 and three counts of uttering death threats. He was held for a bail hearing Monday.
