Sinkhole repair closes section of Highway 7 in Rockwood

A township press release states this is not connected with a recent watermain replacement in the same area

ROCKWOOD – A sinkhole on Highway 7 in Rockwood is not connected to a recent watermain replacement but is being repaired.

Main Street South between Ridge Road and Dunbar Street is closed Wednesday for repair to fix a sinkhole that formed there.

A press release from the Township of Guelph/Eramosa stated the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) investigated the sinkhole and found an upwelling of water which suggests a leak in the water service and not a watermain break.

The highway was previously made safe with a temporary patch before the township could perform an emergency repair of the service.

The repair is scheduled to be completed within the day.

Through traffic on Highway 7 is being detoured on Wednesday down Guelph Line and across Eramosa-Milton Townline.
