What’s better than kids racing their home-made cars (or “kars”) against each other? How about cars crashing into each other? Last car standing wins.

The 2017 Wellington Area Kub Kar Rally runs on Feb. 24 and 25 at College Heights Secondary School, and features a new event: the Smash-Up Derby. Venturers and Scouters can bring cars from previous years or build a brand new one for this event.

A specially designed track sets up the cars to race towards each other and judges decide which one sustained the most damage; the contest continues until only one car is left.

That’s just part of a whole day of fun for Saturday, Feb. 25! The Kub Kar races begin at 10 a.m. and the Beaver Buggy races start at 1 p.m. That’s also when the Smash-Up Derby will start.

The Scout Truck races are on the Friday evening, beginning at 8 p.m.

Other entertaining activities will be set up for kids of all ages, and a snack bar selling pizza, treats and beverages will be available. Money raised will go to supporting the 27th Guelph Scouts to Nova Scotia this summer for the national Jamboree.

Everyone is welcome to come, join in the fun and cheer on your favourite racer! Admission is free.
