St. George's Church to charge for special occasion parking

$10 cost will go towards helping pay to re-pave the lot

St. George's Church will begin charging $10 to park in its Woolwich Street lot during "major downtown events."

The new paid parking starts Friday with the Guelph Storm home opener.

“We understand that parking can be a challenge downtown, but we also need to re-pave our parking lot, and pay for ongoing maintenance. We're hoping hockey fans and River Run patrons won't mind helping us fundraise for that,” said Ellen Luccock, business manager at St. George's, in a press release.

“In fact, our parking lot has always been a private lot, but we looked the other way for a very long time. The volume of events that are now happening right on our doorstep don't allow us to do that anymore.”

The proceeds from the parking lot will be set aside to rebuild the parking lot and pay for ongoing parking lot maintenance.

St. George's will charge $10 per vehicle with 25 spots available on a first-come, first-served basis.
