A scary moment for many this morning has ended with good news as a Barrie girl has been found safe in Guelph following the use of the Amber Alert system.
Shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday, an Amber Alert went out for missing three-year-old Grace (Gracie) Deck and her father, 27-year-old David Cave.
The ordeal began when police were notified at 9 p.m. that Gracie was missing; she and her dad were last seen Monday afternoon at approximately 2:15 p.m. in Barrie.
Barrie police communications coordinator Peter Leon told BarrieToday that all resources were used in the search of the area including the K9 unit and a drone.
“Once the search of the area came up with nothing and the criteria was met for the alert to be made, it was. It is the first time an Amber Alert has been needed for the city and it went very well as Gracie will be reunited, safe and sound, with family today," said Leon.
Leon said police received many tips after the alert was shared around the province. He said Cave contacted someone from Gracie’s family and let them know she was safe.
The Amber Alert was cancelled shortly before 6 a.m.
“We contacted Guelph police and they have been helpful in this investigation. We have officers who should be arriving in Guelph shortly to further investigate and more importantly, get Gracie to her family here in Barrie," said Leon.
Leon said that no charges have been laid “as of yet” as the investigation is still in the early stages.
