Taste Real Local Food Fest returns to Ignatius Jesuit Centre this Sunday

Vendors, live music, craft beer and more return to the grounds of the Ignatius Jesuit Centre Sunday for a celebration of local food during the return of the Guelph-Wellington Taste Real Local Food Fest.

This year’s event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. On June 24 and will offer a number of family activities and children are encouraged to try their hand at gardening and try some of the 10 food skills workshops being offered by Minga Skill Building Hub.

Those workshops will give visitors the opportunity to learn and participate in traditional food growing and preparation skills, including bread baking, butter making, fish butchery and cider making. A full list of workshops is available for viewing on the festival’s web site.

New this year, a number of artist performing on the Hillside Festival stage, including Chad Price, Missy Bauman, Ajay Mehmi, Greg Denton and the Probable Cause Trio and Madison Galloway.

Visitors aged 19 and and older can try the local craft beer from Wellington Brewery, Elora Brewing Company, Heartwood Farm Cidery and Royal City Brewing. It is suggested that visitors bring their Hillside Festival cups for alcoholic beverages and a refill station will be on site for refillable water bottles.

The event organizers encourage visitors to bring a picnic blanket and a shopping basket to enjoy local products from the farmers’ market and exhibitors.

Admission is $5 per person or $10 for a family.

A free shuttle bus will leave downtown Guelph on Quebec Street beside Bank of Montreal (BMO), as well as a new south end stop on Clairfields Drive East at St. Paul Catholic School.
