City council cost taxpayers a total of $654,232 in 2018.

The annual remuneration report outlines the honorariums, benefits and expenses paid out to the 13 members of Guelph City Council.

Mayor Cam Guthrie’s base honorarium for 2018 was $116,924. He was also paid $16,592 in benefits and reimbursed $6,477 in cell, data and conference expenses for a total amount of $139,993.

The mayor’s benefits include a matching RRSP contribution up to 3 per cent of his taxable earnings and an annual car allowance of $5,100.

City councillors were each paid an annual honorarium of $35,751 in 2018 plus cell, data and conference expenses.

Conference expenses totalled $19,189 for the year.

One third of council’s honorariums are tax free.

All members of council receive health, dental and insurance benefits.
