Three impaired charges laid on the weekend

Two of the incidents involved single-vehicle collisions

Police report three motorists were arrested for impaired driving in Guelph on the weekend, including two who were involved in single-vehicle collisions.

Just before 11 p.m. Saturday, police were called to the intersection of London Road West and Exhibition Street where they located a vehicle with heavy front-end damage which had struck a light post.

Officers spoke to the driver, who had a strong odour of alcoholic beverage on his breath and fell asleep while officers were speaking to him. He was arrested and taken to the police station, where testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system. A 48-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving.

On Sunday, approximately 8:50 p.m. police responded to the area of Edinburgh Road North and Paisley Road where they located a vehicle which had driven onto the railway tracks and become stuck, causing damage to the undercarriage. Officers spoke to a male who identified himself as the driver and noticed an odour of alcoholic beverage and signs of impairment.

The male was arrested and taken to the police station, where testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system. A 27-year-old Kitchener man is charged with impaired driving.

Just after 2 a.m. Sunday, officers were conducting a RIDE spot check on Wyndham Street South when an SUV entered the spot check at a high rate of speed before stopping abruptly. The driver was showing signs of impairment and was asked to pull over for further investigation. He had a strong odour of alcoholic beverage on his breath and was unsteady on his feet.

The male was transported to the police station where testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system. A 19-year-old Brampton man is charged with impaired driving.
