Three over 80 charges laid

OPP charge drivers with over 80 mgs in three separate incidents

CITY OF GULEPH – On February 6, 2016 at approximately 2:45 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the driver of a 2015 Hyundai that was travelling northbound on Highway 6 near Clair Road in the City of Guelph for a Highway Traffic Act violation.

While speaking with the driver police detected the odour of alcohol on her breath. 

A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. 

She was taken to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

Her driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.

27-year-old Tara-Lynne FARRELL of Guelph has been charged with over 80 mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

She is to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on March 1, 2016 to answer to the charge.

TOWN OF MINTO – On February 5, 2016 at approximately 3:58 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a possible impaired driver operating a 2008 Ford pick-up truck southbound on Highway 9 in the Town of Minto.

Police located the vehicle stopped in the live lane at Queen Street at Union Street. 

Officers spoke with the driver briefly and detected the odour of alcohol on her breath. 

A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. 

She was taken to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

Her driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.

55-year-old Patricia ANGST of Clifford has been charged with over 80 mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

She is to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on March 1, 2016 to answer to the charge.

GUELPH-ERAMOSA TOWNSHIP – On February 6, 2016 at approximately 12:10 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated the driver of a 2006 Honda that was travelling eastbound on Speedvale Avenue West from Wellington Road 32 in Guelph-Eramosa Township.

Officers observed the vehicle weaving within the lane and noted that the vehicle speeds fluctuated by approximately 20 km/hr. 

Police spoke with the driver and detected the strong odour of alcohol on his breath. 

A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted which resulted in a fail. 

He was taken to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.

38-year-old Dat Van Do of Guelph has been charged with over 80 mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

He is to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on March 1, 2016 to answer to the charge.
