Tom Cochrane to kick off next season at River Run Centre

'There’s quite a diversity, I hope, in the program. There really is something for everyone and I hope they think so too,' facility manager says of 2022/2023 season performances

Music, laughs, cheers and award-winning performers expected at the River Run Centre as the venue is back for its 2022 to 2023 season.

This season the River Run Centre will celebrate its 25th anniversary, having opened Oct. 4, 1997.

“It’s been three years since we’ve last held a season launch event and to quote the title of a Grateful Dead album What a Long Strange Trip It’s Been. The journey continues,” said Bill Nuhn, facility manager for River Run Centre. “We’re thrilled to have to have shows at 100 per cent capacity since March.

“There’s quite a diversity, I hope, in the program. There really is something for everyone and I hope they think so too,” Nuhn said of the upcoming season.

There are a variety of series – two music series, a comedy series, family series, life stories, Kinderconcerts, and a showcase series.

Canadian singer Tom Cochrane will finally perform Oct. 1 after being rescheduled form February 2022 due to COVID restrictions. Tickets are already 50 per cent sold.

“I’m thrilled to announce that the Tenors, originally known as the Canadian Tenors will perform here on Saturday, October 8,” said Nuhn. “For such a world class group we need a world class venue. Without all the hard work from the community that led to the doors opening 25 years ago. Instead of ‘go big or go home’ we can go big at home. International superstars right at our door.”

River Run Centre will have performances from a variety of Juno award-winners like the Tenors, Serena Ryder, William Prince, Lawrence Gowan and more.

Part of the comedy series will feature comedian Ali Hassan with his show called Does This Taste Funny?

"Sweet Guelph, I'm Ali Hassan. How are you? I want to let you know you have given me so much over the years. I've got great friends out of Guelph. I've done some great hiking in Guelph," Hassan said in a video message to the River Run Centre. Hassan is set to perform on Jan. 22.

“When we re-opened in March, we opened with a full slate of events. It’s been a very busy spring. It’s looking to be an incredibly busy fall and next winter and spring too. We’re so excited to have shows back at full capacity.” said Nuhn.
