Two drivers charged with racing in separate incidents

CITY OF GUELPH, ON - On Sunday Jan. 13, 2019, at approximately 10 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic and conducting laser speed enforcement on Highway 6 near Laird Road in the City of Guelph. 

The officer observed a grey motor vehicle travelling northbound at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at a speed in excess of 140 km/h, exceeding the posted speed limit by over 50 km/h.

45-year-old Virginia Springer of Cambridge has been charged with Racing a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

She is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on March 6, 2019. Her driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

TOWNSHIP OF MAPLETON, ON - On Saturday Jan. 12, 2019 at approximately 9:25 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic and conducting radar speed enforcement on Wellington Road 17 near the First Line in the Township of Mapleton. 

The officer observed a grey pick-up truck travelling eastbound at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at a speed in excess of 130 km/h, exceeding the posted speed limit by 50 km/h.

22-year-old Jeremy Southwell of Guelph has been charged with Racing a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act as well as Expired Valtag, Driver Fail to Surrender Driver's Licence and Fail to Surrender Insurance Card.

He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on March 7, 2019. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
