Two more vacant buildings burn

Fires appear to have been set sometime overnight in the basements of both structures

CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP – Today at approximately 8:52 a.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded along with Centre Wellington Fire Rescue Services to two structure fires at two abandoned homes adjacent to one another on Ross Street near Wellington Road 7 in Elora, Centre Wellington Township.

The fires appear to have been set sometime overnight in the basements of both structures and the causes are unknown at this time. 

Fire crews were notified this morning when construction workers arrived in the area and detected smoke coming from the houses. The fires were small and were easily extinguished and did not spread to neighbouring homes.

The Wellington County OPP Crime Unit and the West Region OPP Forensics Identification Services Unit along with the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall continue to investigate.
