Two U. of Guelph students involved in fatal kayaking accident

One student is still missing

The following is a statement released today by the University of Guelph regarding a fatal kayaking accident in Caledon, Ontario. One student is confirmed to have died and another remains missing:

The University of Guelph expresses sympathy to the families of two students involved in a kayaking accident in Caledon on Sunday.

Kaya Firth, a fourth-year English student, died, and her boyfriend, Zach Sutherland, a fourth-year commerce major, is missing.

“We are deeply saddened by this news,” said president Franco Vaccarino. “Our hearts and thoughts go out to the friends and families of these two vibrant young people.”
