Postdoctoral researchers at University of Guelph have chosen to unionize after a vote held earlier this week.

A total of 95 uncontested ballots were cast in a vote held on Monday, with 90 per cent favouring certification.

In a story last week, GuelphToday spoke to the founder of the university's Post Doc Society about the reasons for the vote.

The approximately 150 post docs working at U of G will now be represented by the United Steel Workers.

In a news release from U of G, Ben Bradshaw, assistant vice-president (graduate and postdoctoral studies), said the certification will mean a more structured relationship with post docs.

"The university has had a constructive relationship with postdoctoral fellows and he expects this to continue," said the release.
