You can now apply to be a part of a task force that reviews police presence in Upper Grand District School Board schools.

The UGDSB is seeking applications from community members to fill seven or eight positions in a task force that would also include three school board trustees and three board staff members.

A motion to create the Task Force was created and passed in June after a background report regarding police presence in schools stated that staff and trustees received many emails and phone calls that suggested police have been targeting Black, Indigenous and people of colour (BIPOC) students.

Requirements for application include being a member of a community organization that represents a voice and being a resident within the UGDSB region. Representation from each geographic area will be sought.

“UGDSB is mindful of traditionally under-represented voices, especially BIPOC (Black Indigenous People of Colour) and will make a specific effort to reach out to this community for Task Force representation,” reads the application

The deadline for the application is Aug. 10.
