UNITED WAY GUELPH WELLINGTON DUFFERIN

United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin, the area’s largest funder of social service programs, is investing in 90 social service programs at 55 community agencies during 2017-2018.

“United Way is very excited to continue to support the current needs of our community and its growing and diversifying needs”, said Ken Dardano, executive director at United Way. “As our community grows, access to these programs for everyone in our community is crucial.”

United Way invests funds in community programs based on identified community needs. Local agencies apply to receive United Way funding, and a dedicated group of volunteers manage the distribution of funds, thoroughly researching and meeting with the agencies to learn first-hand how their programs address local issues.

“United Way has committed over $2.73 million in funding this year,” added Mr. Dardano. “Thanks to another successful 2016 fundraising campaign, and the ongoing support of donors, we can continue to provide the consistent funding that local charities need to develop long-term programming that makes an impact on thousands of individuals in our community.”

Investments will be made under United Way’s three focus areas – From Poverty to Possibility, Strong Communities and All That Kids Can Be. Funded programs provide basic needs to those struggling financially, keep our community active and engaged and support kids as they grow and develop.

Some of this year’s programs include Big Brothers Big Sisters (Guelph, Centre Wellington, North Wellington and Dufferin and District), Canadian Mental Health Association, Guelph-Wellington Women In Crisis, Michael House Pregnancy Care Centre and the Welcome In Drop-In Centre.

“At the end of the day, we want to make sure that we’re serving the community better,” Dardano said. “We are continuing to look at how we can make a difference in people’s lives and how we can help the organizations that we’re funding make that happen.”

Funds are raised and allocated in 2016 and distributed to programs Apr. 1, 2017-Mar. 31, 2018. For a full list of United Way funded agencies, visit unitedwayguelph.com.
