They should hang up and call Alectra Utilities / Guelph Hydro at 519-822-3010 during normal business hours to report the call and verify their account. Registered online account users can also verify their account online 24/7.
Alectra Utilities / Guelph Hydro does not disconnect customers without prior notice. The company mails disconnect notices, hand delivers notices, makes phone calls and knocks on the door when a disconnection is about to take place.
Customers are encouraged to warn friends and family members of this scam. If they receive a scam call, report the call to the local police and contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre online.
