Are you in the priority group to receive a COVID-19 vaccination but unsure how to pre-register? No need to fear, Guelph Public Library is here.

“That is something libraries do. We help people search out, seek out, navigate and successfully fill out forms on government sites,” said CEO Steven Kraft.

On Tuesday, Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health announced the launch of pre-registration for priority community members to be vaccinated. That includes, among other things, medical first responders, essential caregivers in long-term care and high-risk retirement homes, adult recipients of chronic home care, hospital workers and people age 80 and older.

“Frequently that age group doesn’t have access to a computer or has difficulty accessing electronic sources,” said Kraft, noting several people visited a library location in the past day looking for assistance.

“If they come in here, we will help them do it themselves or we will do it for them. We will step them through it over the phone as well.”

There’s no need to book an appointment for in-person help, noted Kraft.

The same service is being offered to rural residents at Wellington County library branches.

To pre-register for the vaccine, visit wdgpublichealth.ca/register or call 519-822-2715 ext. 4506.

“Vaccinating people as quickly as possible against COVID-19 is Public Health’s top priority,” said Dr. Nicola Mercer, medical officer of health and CEO of WDG Public Health, in a news release. “The pre-registration is a positive step forward as our vaccine supply and our administration capacity expand to meet our goal of vaccinating at least 75 per cent of our region by August.”
