Van Gogh’s Ear is getting a facelift

The popular downtown bar and restaurant is closing for renovations and rebranding

The doors are closed and contractors are hard at work at Van Gogh’s Ear as the bar and restaurant undergoes major renovations.

“Van Gogh’s is getting a facelift,” said owner Conrad Aikens. “Our last day of business was St. Patrick’s Day and we are planning to reopen in two months.”

Aikens was reluctant to reveal too many details but said the renovation was long overdue and that the adjoining Latin restaurant, formerly known as Salsateria, is being re-branded under a new name.

They are also planning a new schedule of music and entertainment.

A sign posted on the front door at the corner of Wyndham and Macdonell streets thanked the citizens of Guelph for their support “after 23 wonderful years.”

The downtown landmark has seen its share of changes since it was built in 1860 and underwent a $100,000 renovation in 2010.

Aikens, who has owned the building since 1995, said the renovations are limited to the main floor and that DSTRCT Nightclub on the upper floor will remain open.
