Victoria Road closed for water main repairs (Update: One lane open, expect delays)

Local businesses are open and accessible but Victoria Road is closed from Elizabeth Street to Simcoe Street

10 p.m. update: 

The water main break is repaired. Due to rain, final road repairs cannot be done today. Victoria Road will remain closed to all southbound traffic between Elizabeth Street and Simcoe Street overnight and into Monday. One northbound lane will be open for through traffic. Delays should be expected.

A large water main break occurred on Victoria Road near Elizabeth Street early this morning. There are no health risks as a result of the break.

Victoria Road southbound lanes closed through Monday

Victoria Road remains closed to all through southbound traffic between Elizabeth Street to just north of Simcoe Street. The driver detour is via Elizabeth Street and York Road.

One northbound lane will be reopened as soon as possible. Drivers should expect delays, especially during the Monday commute.

Local business access is maintained on either side of the water main break via the northbound lane. 

All pedestrian sidewalks remain open and there is no impact to Guelph Transit.

A large water main break occurred on Victoria Road near Elizabeth Street early this morning. There are no health risks as a result of the break.

Traffic impacts and business access

Victoria Road is closed to all through traffic between Elizabeth Street to just north of Simcoe Street. The driver detour is via Elizabeth Street and York Road.

Local business access is maintained on either side of the water main break. PartSource and Troy’s Toys can be accessed from either side of the closure through interconnected parking lots.

All pedestrian sidewalks remain open and there is no impact to Guelph Transit.

Repair timing

Crews are on site and repairs are expected to be complete some time later today. More information will be provided as the water main break is assessed.

Minor changes in water pressure may be experienced by those living or working near the area of the water main break.

The city will provide updates at its website and on Facebook and Twitter should anything change, or once repairs are complete.
