VIDEO: $48M lotto winner on the moment her life changed forever

'I called my mom and I was crying,' says 18-year-old jackpot winner, in an exclusive interview with Village Media. 'I didn't really know how to react'

Last week, an 18-year-old university student from Sault Ste. Marie came forward to claim one of the largest jackpots in Lotto 6/49 history — on the very first ticket she ever purchased.

After the cheque presentation on Feb. 3, Juliette Lamour sat down for an exclusive interview with Inside the Village, a news podcast produced by Village Media.

She shared the details of her unbelievable stroke of luck: what motivated her to buy that ticket, the precise moment her life changed forever, and what she plans to do with such an enormous amount of money. (Spoiler alert: Lamour dreams of going to medical school and one day practicing in Northern Ontario).

During the interview, she also talked about a now-famous childhood photograph that made the local news: a picture of Lamour and her little sister donating the contents of their pink piggy bank to earthquake relief efforts in Haiti.

You can watch the full interview HERE.

Hosted by Scott Sexsmith and Michael Friscolanti, the Editor-in-Chief of Village Media, Inside the Village provides a weekly window into some of the best local journalism from across our chain of Ontario newsrooms.
