Vintage clothes, handmade items and more can be found at the Ward Night Market

The event will take place Oct. 14 at Laza Food & Beverage on Ontario Street starting at 6 p.m.
For one night only, some local businesses will be gathering in Guelph to host an outdoor night market.

The Ward Night Market is happening on Oct. 14, the night market at the Laza Food & Beverages parking lot on Ontario Street.

From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. residents can come check out local small businesses selling vintage clothes, handmade items, food and more.

One of the event organizers, Susan Carey, explains this event follows the success of the first Ward Night Market held in August, where many locals came and socialized.

“We hope this vendor-run model will be adopted by other neighbourhoods in Guelph,” said Carey in an email statement.

The night market uses a vendor-run model where vendors organize the event on donated space. Since vendors organize the event, including collaborating with other businesses, self-promoting the event and bringing their own tables and tents, participating businesses do not have to pay vendor fees.

“This might not seem like a big deal, but it’s significant for home-based, kitchen table enterprises,” said Carey further in the email, “Market fees are generally $40 to over $100, and easily eat up the profits of a small enterprise.”

"This enables local, home-based makers and entrepreneurs to be more financially successful."
