Guelph, Ont., November 22, 2016—A large water main break occurred during construction in Eramosa River Park at around 10 a.m. today. There are no health risks as a result of the break.
The City has taken the water main out of service.
“Although the water main is out of service, it’s business as usual,” said Peter Busatto, manager of environmental services for the City. “The City’s built in system redundancy helps ensure that our community’s day-to-day water needs can still be met when main breaks happen, including water needed for emergency responses like fire suppression.”
Repairs will be completed overnight. The City had replacement parts made before construction work began so that it would be prepared to respond to such an event.
Minor changes in water pressure may be experienced in some areas of the city, including north of the Speed River, west of the Eramosa River, south of Paisley Road to the western city limits.
Some noise and light due to construction may be experienced by those living around the park.
“While don’t like working at night when people are trying to sleep, this is an important repair,” noted Busatto. “Fixing it now, while the water demand is lower than in the morning, ensures the least inconvenience. We apologize in advance for the noise from construction equipment.”
The City will provide an update should anything change, or once the break is repaired.
