NEWS RELEASE

GRAND RIVER CONSERVATION AUTHORITY

*************************
The Grand River watershed received another 15 to 20 mm of rain, freezing rain and snow over the weekend.

The peak from last week’s event has moved into the Southern Grand River.

The peaks from the latest precipitation will depend on the speed and intensity of the warmer weather forecast for this week, which will melt any remaining snow off the landscape.

There is no additional precipitation in the forecast for the next seven days, so flows in the river system are expected to decline significantly by the end of the week.

At this time, no major flooding is expected, although there may be some flooding of low lying areas. The low level bridge at St. Jacobs has now been reopened.

The major reservoirs are being operated to store the remaining runoff for summer river augmentation.

Stay safe

The public is still reminded to exercise caution in and around all rivers, streams and water bodies.

Banks adjacent to rivers and creeks are slippery and when combined with cold, fast-moving water pose a serious hazard.

Parents are encouraged to keep their children and pets away from watercourses.

This statement will remain in effect until Friday April 15, 2016.
