Ontario is investing in critical improvements to a local bridge in the Township of Mapleton, to help create jobs and boost economic growth. The Township of Mapleton will receive up to $1,268,561 to support the bridge replacement.

Liz Sandals, MPP for Guelph was pleased to announce this great news for the Township of Mapleton today on behalf of the minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Jeff Leal, and minister of Infrastructure, Bob Chiarelli.

The province is investing in critical upgrades to a bridge on Sideroad 17 in the Township of Mapleton, by replacing the former structure with a new two-lane bridge. The new bridge will improve traffic flow, eliminate existing load limits, and help ensure the safety of local residents.

The Township of Mapleton is one of 55 communities that will receive support from the province through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF) to build and upgrade local infrastructure.

  • Ontario is investing up to $60 million through the 2016 OCIF Top-Up Application Component for these 55 communities.
  • Ontario is tripling its investments through OCIF from $100 million in 2016 to $300 million per year in 2019.
  • This commitment includes increasing the formula-based funding to $200 million and increasing the application-based component to approximately $100 million by 2018.
  • OCIF supports projects in municipalities with a population of less than 100,000 as of the 2011 census, as well as municipalities that are located in northern or rural Ontario.
