NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF GUELPH

If after a major snowfall, you’re asking where’s the plow, you can now check online. The City of Guelph has launched two new services — Plow Tracker, that will show snow plow locations, and one to advise residents of plow outs.

The online Plow Tracker map will show residents the location of both city and contracted snow plows on primary, secondary and residential streets, as well as the location of the city sidewalk snow plows.

Icons on the Plow Tracker map will distinguish between city-operated snow plows (in blue), contractor plows (in green) and sidewalk plows (in orange).

“Our plow operators are ready for this winter season,” said Doug Godfrey, manager of operations for the city. “The Plow Tracker map is another way we can confidently let our residents know our plows are on the roads, preparing and clearing snow after a significant snowfall.”

Guelph residents can subscribe to receive an email update about when a residential plow out is in affect and when a plow out has been completed through the new email alert feature on the City of Guelph webpage.

The city uses its own plows and hires additional plows to ensure roads are cleared of snow as quickly as possible.

City streets are plowed in order of primary roads such as Edinburgh Road or Speedvale Avenue, followed by school zones, bus routes and secondary streets — those that connect to primary roads such as Metcalfe Street and Dawson Road.

Residential roads treated with sand and salt, and plowed after eight centimetres of snow has fallen, usually within 24 hours of the end of a storm.

Residents are reminded to allow 12 hours after a snowfall before contacting the city about concerns. Please use the Report a Problem on guelph.ca or call 519-837-5628.

The city is responsible for plowing, salting and sanding 1,209 kilometres of roads, 61 crosswalks, crossings, steps and walkways, 657 kilometres of sidewalks and 505 bus stops.
