Guelph's York Road has been given the dubious honour of being named one of the worst roads in the region by the Canadian Automobile Association.
The CAA's annual Worst Roads Campaign has wrapped up and York Road was number five on the worst roads in the CAA South Central Ontario region.
In comes behind Franklin Boulevard in Cambridge, Radical Road in Port Dover, Bridge Street West in Waterloo and Gibbons Street in Goderich.
The worst road in the province according to the survey was County Road 47 in Prince Edward County.
Ray Chan, Government Relations Specialist with CAA South Central Ontario, said the survey is an awareness campaign.
"We don't really look at it as a way of shaming municipalities," Chan said. "It's really an awareness campaign to shed a little light on issues surrounding infrastructure funding and the proper maintenance and repair of our roads."
The CAA has been doing the survey for 13 years and this year Chan said there were 2,500 different roads in Ontario nominated with the number of people submitting votes "in the 10s of thousands."
"We've never seen a response this huge," Chan said.
People are asked not just to judge the road based on its condition, but on a wide range of criteria including potholes, cracks, congestion, confusing design and quality of signage.
"Without dedicated funding towards roads, and budgeting for the future, it ends up becoming quite costly to repair these roads. So we want to bring attention to the public, but also to the politicians at all levels who are making these decisions."
Voters could leave comments regarding the road they voted for, but those are not made public.
