With just one week left before Christmas, Environment Canada says snow is not likely for Guelph and surrounding area.

“At this time, I would say probably no white Christmas, but it’s still a bit too early to say,” said Weiqing Zhang, severe weather meteorologist with Environment Canada.

A weather system is expected for Friday and Saturday, but will consist only of rain, said Zhang.

"After that, the systems are really weak," said Zhang.

She noted many people may be travelling Friday and Saturday for the holidays.

Temperatures will be hovering around zero degrees Celsius on Friday and Saturday, but Zhang said it will not likely be cold enough in the area for there to be freezing rain.

A small amount of snow may fall on Christmas Eve on Monday, but Zhang said it will not likely stay on the ground by Christmas morning on Tuesday.

“It’s too warm for Guelph area,” she said.
