A Brampton woman has been arrested in connection with a fraud late last year at a Guelph business.

On Nov. 26, a woman entered a business near Elmira Road South and Paisley Road and used fake identification to open two cellphone accounts. At the time the company was running a promotion offering free iPhone 14s with each account opened. The loss to the business was more than $2,500.

On Dec. 9, the woman attended the same business and attempted to open accounts using a different fake name, but left before completing the transaction. She was eventually identified and on Monday was arrested in Guelph.

A 25-year-old Brampton woman is charged with fraud under $5,000 and identity theft. She will appear in a Guelph court May 2, 2023.
