Police identify woman who died after falling through Guelph Lake ice

A 62-year-old Guelph man, spouse of the deceased, was treated at hospital and is in stable condition

(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH/ERAMOSA, ON) - December 19, 2018 at approximately 3:30 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Guelph Fire Department and Guelph-Wellington Paramedics responded to two people who had fallen through the ice on Guelph Lake. The two were removed from the icy water and rushed to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

62-year-old Margaret "Molly" Kurvnik of Guelph was pronounced dead in hospital. A 62-year-old Guelph man, spouse of the deceased, was treated at hospital and is in stable condition.

Reports indicate that the couple was iceboating when Kurvnik's vessel broke through the ice approximately 200 feet from shore. Her spouse attempted to assist her and the two became trapped in the frigid waters.
