Work begins on huge south Guelph development Gordon Square

Tricar will start selling units in Gordon Square in January

Ground has been broken and the crane will soon be in the air in one of the biggest residential developments south Guelph has seen in quite some time.

It also now has a name: Gordon Square.

Located at 1888 Gordon St., just south of Clair Road, the development will eventually consist of five buildings totalling around 550 units, mostly condos but with some townhomes.

"The first building for Gordon Square is now under construction. The tower crane is going up next week and we anticipate the first occupancy dates to be spring of 2021," said Adam Carapella, vice-president of operations with Tricar Developments.

Two of the buildings are 14 storeys tall, each totalling 167 units. there are two eight storey buildings with roughly 100 units plus townhomes and a fifth building that is a two-storey commercial building.

Tricar has also been cleared to build a condo tower at 71 Wyndham St. just south of Wellington Street beside the river.

Carapella said the first tower of Gordon Square will be built prior to starting construction on Wyndham Street, but other phases of the Gordon Square project could be built  in parallel with the downtown development.

Pricing starts in the $300,000s and up to the $600,000s, Carapella said, with the top floor signature suites up to $1 million.

"There could be 700 to 800 people plus when this is complete, so it will truly be its own thriving urban village in addition to being an extension of the vibrant south end of Guelph," Carapella said.

At a VIP pre-sale last month Tricar sold 60 units.

Sale to the general public starts on Jan. 26.
