Wyndham Street apartment fire caused by unattended candle

On May 19 at approximately 9:45 a.m., the Guelph Fire Department responded to a reported fire at 116 Wyndham St. N.

Arriving at the scene, firefighters found smoke coming from a second floor apartment unit.

The fire was quickly brought under control and subsequently extinguished. This situation was caused by an unattended candle left burning on an upholstered chair.

The City of Guelph Fire Department would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the dangers of unattended candles. Please be mindful of the open flame.

There were no injuries to report.

The cause of the fire, along with a damage estimate, is under investigation by Guelph Fire investigators who remain on scene at the time of this writing.

The Guelph Fire Department would like to thank the Guelph Police Service, Guelph Wellington EMS and the Guelph Humane Society.
