NEWS RELEASE

CITY OF GUELPH

*************************
York Road closure starts in April

Toronto/Hersey Street to Ontario Street

The City is working with Drexler Construction Limited to complete underground water and sewer pipe upgrades on York Road from Wyndham Street South to Ontario Street including the York Road and Ontario Street intersection.

In addition to water and sewer pipe replacement, work includes the replacement of curb and gutter, sidewalks, driveway aprons, as well as asphalt paving and the addition of bike lanes.

The road’s current two-lane configuration will be maintained. The City will add a multi-use path on the south side of the road, and cycling lanes on the north side of the road. On-street parking will be available on the south side of road only.

York Road closure starts April 3

York Road will be closed from Toronto/Hersey Street to Ontario Street, including the York/Ontario intersection, starting the first week of April for at least three months.

Local access will be maintained throughout the project. Please follow posted detours via Victoria Road and Elizabeth Street.

Pedestrian access

Sidewalks will be closed during construction; however, local access will be maintained. Pedestrians may have to cross the road for access. Pedestrians not accessing properties within the construction zone are encouraged to detour around it.

Property and business access and parking

All businesses in and on either side of the construction area remain open and accessible throughout construction.

Every effort will be made to maintain access to driveways in the construction area during working hours. Temporary delays due to road work should be expected. There will be times when access will be restricted and alternate arrangements will need to be made for parking and access to properties. Notification will be given and arrangements made when this is to occur.

Guelph Transit

Guelph Transit route 4 will be detoured throughout the work. Detour information will be posted on guelphtransit.ca.

City services

There will be no interruption to any City services during construction. Waste collection will be scheduled to occur before morning construction begins. Please place your green and blue or grey carts at the curb by 6:30 a.m. on your regular collection day.

The City appreciates your patience, understanding and co-operation during this important construction project. Project details and any updates will be posted on guelph.ca/construction.
