NEWS RELEASE

UNIVERSITY OF GUELPH

The winter varsity sport season for the Guelph Gryphons has been paused after a decision made by Ontario University Athletics (OUA), under the direction of its Board of Directors effective immediately.

The decision was based on provincial public health guidelines and with the health, safety and well-being of all OUA participants at the forefront.

With this pause, OUA programming (scrimmages, exhibition games, tournaments, league competition, championships), which was originally scheduled to start back up on January 6th, will commence no earlier than Monday, January 24th. This decision and corresponding timeline have been established in an effort to better allow member institutions to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on student-life programming and allow for student-athletes to have sufficient time to properly train and prepare for the winter championship stretch run.

The men's hockey signature event, The Frosty Mug which was set to take place January 20th  at the Sleeman Centre will be rescheduled.
