LONDON – Owen Bennett made 28 saves in regulation, five in overtime and a big one in the shootout as the Guelph Storm downed the London Knights 2-1 in London Sunday afternoon.

Despite the loss, the single point clinched the Midwest Division title for the Knights, guaranteeing them the second seed for the first round of the playoffs.

With the win Guelph sits fifth in the Western Conference, two points ahead of the Owen Sound Attack with Guelph holding a game in hand. The Storm will meet either the Flint Firebirds or Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the opening round of the playoffs.

The Storm has three games remaining: Tuesday in Erie, Friday at home against Kitchener and Saturday at home against Windsor.

Brayden Guy's first period goal stood up until the final minute of play Sunday, when Brody Crane tied the game on a goalmouth scramble with London netminder Owen Flores on the bench for the extra attacker.

After a thrilling but scoreless overtime, Braeden Bowman and Valentin Zhugin beat Flores on the shootout for the Storm, while London scored once, hit the post once and had Bennett make one big save.

Daniil Chayka returned to the Storm lineup Sunday after a month-long hiatus with a lower body injury.
