Big start, close finish for Guelph Storm

Hang on for a 5-3 win in Peterborough, host Owen Sound Friday night

PETERBOROUGH - The Guelph Storm jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period then hung on for a 5-3 win over the Peterborough Petes Thursday.

Isaac Ratcliffe led the way with a pair of goals, including the clincher into the empty net.

Liam Hawel, Keegan Stevenson and Alexey Toropchenko had the other Guelph goals.

Former Storm defenceman Ryan Merkley had an assist for the Petes.

The Storm outshot the Petes 39-33 with Anthony Popovich earning the win in the Guelph net.

Storm defenceman Fedor Gordeev was given a game misconduct and a cross-checking major in the third period.

Guelph hosts the Owen Sound Attack Friday night in a 7:30 start at the Sleeman Centre. Sunday the Niagara IceDogs visit for an afternoon game.
