Guelph's Connor Wood scored 17 points in his Guelph Nighthawks debut Saturday night at the Sleeman Centre, but it wasn't enough as the Nighthawks were edged 104-103 by the Hamilton Honey Badgers.
Wood hit six of nine field goals, including three of five from beyond the arc, in just under 25 minutes of action. He also had four assists.
The game was tied 94-94 with 3:29 left in the game before the Honey Badgers went on a 5-0 run to take a lead they would never relinquish.
Guelph trailed 53-46 at the half and led 74-73 after three quarters in a game played before roughly 1,000 fans.
The Nighthawks fall to 3-7 on the season with the loss and sit in fifth place in the six-team Canadian Elite Basketball League. Hamilton improved to 7-3.
Myck Kabongo led the Nighthawks with 23 points and eight rebounds.
Guelph plays at Fraser Valley on July 4 then return home to host the Edmonton Stingers on July 6.
