Five Guelph Gryphons chosen in CFL draft

Five members of the University of Guelph Gryphons were selected in Tuesday’s Canadian Football League draft.

Linebacker Curtis Newton was selected by the Toronto Argonauts in the fifth round, 40th overall.

Offensive lineman Kyle Fraser-Audit was taken by the Ottawa Redblacks in the sixth round, 45th overall.

Wide receiver A’Dre Fraser was also taken in the sixth round, by the Montreal Alouettes, 47th overall.

Offensive lineman Matt Toppan went to Montreal in the eighth round, 64th overall.

Kick return specialist Ryan Nieuwesteeg was drafted by Toronto in the eighth round, 66th overall.

All but Toppan are eligible to return to the Gryphons for a fifth and final season in September.
