Storm Acquire Picks from Saginaw for C.J. Garcia

GUELPH, ON – The Guelph Storm Hockey Club announced today that they have acquired a 3rd Round Pick in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection, a 2nd Round Pick in 2019 and a 4th Round Pick in 2020 from the Saginaw Spirit in exchange for defenseman C.J. Garcia.

Garcia was acquired by the Storm during the 2014-15 season.

He played 96 games in a Storm uniform, registering six goals and 29 assists for 35 points in 88 regular season games and two goals and two assists in eight playoff appearances.

Garcia served as the Storm’s 29th Captain during the 2015-16 season.

Garcia was a huge supporter of community initiatives in Guelph; he served as a Booster Juice Ambassador during the 2015-16 season and took part in numerous school visits, and other community events during his two years with the team.

“Trading C.J. was a difficult decision. He is a first-class player and an outstanding young man,” said Storm GM Mike Kelly. “We feel, however, that our left side on defense is one of our strongest areas in terms of depth. We felt that we could make this move in return for significant draft picks with the intention of using these picks to upgrade our team in other areas.”

He added, “We would like to thank C.J. for his tremendous contributions to the Storm and the community of Guelph, over the past two years. We wish him every success in Saginaw.”
